On font changing issue for S60 phones

Category: Skill, Author: Dave, Popularity: 4% [?]

Fonts changingIt's really been some kind of intangible pressure on me to get started writing about font changing issue on Nokia s60 v3 devices for there already has been no less than handful threads, articles posted to show you the way, and they work very well. So this post may be no better. Yet the point of this post is not about telling you a brand new way, so to say, easier or more effective, but recollecting information here for you to view.

Firstly I would like to state that to operate on different models, you may have to do it in different ways, yet by any way two things are the same. For one, find the .ttf file, the font of which is to be set as the font in your phone. Two,  you are gonna need to do like this :

1. Make a folder on your memory card as follows: [mem-card]Normally known as E:Resource/Fonts

2. Pick TTF font, create 3 copies and rename apropriate files as described below

- NOSNR60.ttf = Nokia Sans S60 Regular
- NSSB60.ttf = Nokia Sans S60 SemiBold
- NSTSB60.ttf = Nokia Sans S60 TitleSmBd S60
- S60ZDIGI.ttf = Series 60 ZDigi
3. Copy these to newly created folder (fonts folder)

4. Reboot phone

Here is the original thread on which I got this information and followed the steps, finally had the fonts  changed on N95 8GB.

As I wrote before, however, this is one basic step to get the new font recognised and displayed.  With the method alone, you can do the job on Symbian OS9.1 models which means on N95 8GB or E71, so to say, models other the ones running os 9.1, there must be steps to be added.

Taking N95 8GB and E71 for example (the models I tested on), FontRounter is an indispensable part to get the .ttf file recognised. Without it, the font would remain the same as before you add the folder in memory card.

Here is another blog post in which you'll find detailed process of how to operate.

For the most part I know you may still have doubts about changing font on your phone, contact us then. I will see what I can do to help. But keep this in mind, on doing such hack on s60 v3 phones, you should be careful seriously, any misoperation or wrongdoing may due to collapse of the system. And that's something I can't be responsible for.

Fantastic blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I'm planning to start my own website soon but I'm a little lost on everything.
Would you suggest starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are
so many choices out there that I'm completely overwhelmed ..
    Any recommendations? Kudos!
