Update 5800 XM via Nokia FOTA

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has released the new firmware v21.0.025 for some weeks. A lot of people have updated to this version.  But some still have problems with it. Except Nokia Software Updater, for MAC users or those who don't want to update by computer, Nokia also supports update from your phone. This is called Nokia Firmware Update Over the Air (FOTA).

You can find FOTA in your phone at Settings>Phone>Phone mgmt.>Device updates or simply dial '*#0000#'. You will see your current phone software version and some other information. To update your firmware, click Options and then Check for updates, if there's a newer firmware, it will start downloading.  However, this will charge for date package, you can choose wifi for a cheaper and steady download. After download, the installation will start automatically.

However, some people failed to connect to the OTA server. Usually, you need not to make any setting for it. If you cannot update, goto Device updates>Settings, choose Default server profile as Nokia. This may probably solve the issue. :)

McGraw, try to follow the steps, it seems that you will not have defined profile, but when you are there in update menu, go to Options > Settings > Nokia and do the update, it requeires a stable internet connexion. Enjoy

Hi - I am in this position too. I don't have any server profiles set up on my phone, not even a "Nokia" one. When I go to Options > Settings, there is no "Nokia" there.

I just need the settings for the Nokia server profile. I've emailed Nokia twice and they don't seem to be able to help! Can anyone assist?

McGraw, U need not to make any settings for the profile. This depends on your service operator. You can inquire them about it.

How do you choose WIFI? I can't see an option to choose wifi after selecting "check for updates".

It's due to your phone code, check on Nokia Update to see if your phone has a update.

Hi there. I'm trying to get that update via Nokia FOTA. But my problem is the server profile. I have no default server profile in my cell phone, because of that I have no choice but set it manually. Does anyone has the settings for it? I mean, if I have to set a new server profile, I'm asked for some info, like host address, Port, username, access point and etc...I'm looking for it everywhere, but I'm getting frustraded...

I hope someone can me help me... :)

    Thanks!

    Hi, Paulo,

It seems that you have to ask your operator for the server profile. However, you can update your phone with no server profile. Just follow this article.
